Lashimode Matimura is a visionary inventor and entrepreneur dedicated to revolutionising the energy sector and fighting against climate change through innovative solutions with a passion for supporting green technology. Lashimode who is the CEO of Triple G Hyssop Gas has invented a technology that converts lemon juice and a few other reactants to produce clean gas. The inventor says he was given the formula in a dream, hence the name of the gas being Triple G (GGG) or God Given Gas Hyssop. In his words “This is purely green energy which has demonstrated higher heat efficiency as LPG”. The 22 year-old has also come up with Lithium self-recharging generator and Hydrogen powered water pump. He was a gold medalist at the Science Education In Service Teacher Training held in Chitungwiza 2019 and also a Bronze medalist at the International Festival of Science and Technology, Tunisia in 2020.
Lashimode speaks exclusively to Sunday Oyinloye, Publisher, Green Savannah Diplomatic Cable
Excerpts:
How did you start hyssop Gas, what was the motivation?
In June 2019, God appeared to me in a dream and gave me the formula for clean energy in the form of manufactured gas, and that was how it all began. I founded Hyssop Gas with a passion for innovation and sustainability. I then experimented with lemon-powered gas production as a source of alternative energy. This proof of concept project involved harnessing the electrical chemicals of lemons to subsequently produce pure gas. Hyssop gas was driven first by curiosity. I wanted to explore unconventional energy sources. Secondly, I was concerned about the environment. I wanted to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. I was also motivated by the entrepreneurial spirit in me. This initial experiment sparked further research and development, leading to the establishment of Hyssop Gas.
What makes the type of gas you produce unique?
Hyssop gas is improving air quality and also reducing greenhouse gas emissions (e.g., carbon dioxide, methane), lower particulate matter (PM) emissions, improving indoor and outdoor air quality. The technology decreases nitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions, minimising acid rain and smog formation. It is an environmentally friendly gas since it is mitigating climate change and lower carbon footprint compared to traditional biomass or coal-based cooking methods. This kind of gas reduces deforestation and land degradation since we are not mining but manufacturing using lemons. It is anticipated that it will contribute to achieving global climate goals (e.g., Paris Agreement) This gas also reduces water pollution from decreased biomass burning and ash disposal, lower water usage for gas-based cooking compared to traditional solid fuel. The technology will protect the ecosystem with the preservation of forests and biodiversity; it will reduce soil degradation and erosion. It has economic benefits of reduced fuel costs and increased energy efficiency.
Why should any top businessman invest in what you are doing?
Top businessmen should invest in my project because of its strategic advantages, financial benefits, impact and social responsibility, and competitive landscape.
You have also developed Lithium self-charging generator and hydrogen powered water pump. Would you want to speak about them?
Not much deep into it but I came up with the ideas in the wake of power outages trying to reduce the cost of electricity, especially in rural areas where there might not be any power at all or where they are doing load shedding.
You had an encounter with President Mnangagwa, would you like to share experience?
I had the honor of meeting the President of Zimbabwe, Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa and was struck by his warmth, wisdom, and vision for the country’s future. My encounter with him motivated me to push boundaries and make a positive impact. The President emphasized the importance of innovation and showed genuine interest in my work. I am humbled by the opportunity I had, and looking forward to sharing with him more progress on the project.
Before we started the interview, you said you wanted to meet the Chairman of United Bank for Africa, Tony Elumelu, what informs that decision?
I believe meeting Mr. Tony Elumelu, Chairman of United Bank for Africa would be a game-changer for my gas project. As a renowned entrepreneur and investor, Mr. Elumelu has a proven track record of supporting innovative businesses across Africa. His investment company, Heirs Holdings, operates in various sectors, including oil and gas, which aligns perfectly with my project. Mr. Elumelu’s expertise and network would provide invaluable guidance and support to help my project scale. As the Chairman of United Bank for Africa, which operates in 20 African countries, he has a deep understanding of the continent’s energy landscape. His involvement would open doors to new markets, partnerships, and financing opportunities. Additionally, Mr. Elumelu’s philanthropic effort through the Tony Elumelu Foundation focuses on empowering African entrepreneurs and promoting economic development. His foundation’s mission aligns with the potential impact of my gas project, making him an ideal partner.
What is your message to the world?
To fellow dreamers and innovators, I say don’t let age or experience limit your potential. Unleash your creativity because your ideas can transform lives and communities.
