Excerpts:
Why did you decide to go into gospel music?
I grew up singing in the church choir, and music has always been a big part of me. I actually started with gospel music and released my first album in 2007 titled Heal Me. Later, around 2012, I ventured into Afro music. I even shot a video in Dubai and worked on several other songs. But in 2016, I had a personal encounter with God, and that moment shifted my path completely. I realized my voice is not just for entertainment; it is a gift for service, to inspire people and remind them of His love. So for me, gospel music is not just passion anymore, it is a calling.
How acceptable is gospel music in Canada?
Gospel music here is growing, but it is still finding its full expression. Canada is such a multicultural country, and while there are thriving gospel communities, it is not yet as mainstream as other genres. That said, people here are open-minded, and when gospel is delivered with authenticity and creativity, it connects deeply across cultures.
Your much-awaited single Ekele will be out on the 26th of this month, what was the motivation?
Ekele means “thanksgiving” in Igbo, and the song is all about gratitude. Life isn’t always easy, but there is always a reason to give thanks. I wanted to create a song that reminds people to focus on God’s goodness, what He has done, what He is doing, and what He will do. For me, Ekele is also very personal. It is the story of my life and my way of appreciating God for where I am today.
How optimistic are you that the song will be a chartbuster?
I believe Ekele carries a sound and a message that transcends cultures and borders. While chart positions are great, my true focus is impact. If people can sing this song and feel joy, hope, and gratitude, that will mean success to me. But yes, I’m optimistic, because gratitude is a universal language, and I believe Ekele has the energy to resonate widely.
Why should the world look forward to your single?
Because Ekele is more than just music, it is an experience. It blends African rhythm with gospel energy, and it is something you can dance to while still connecting spiritually. Ekele is a celebration of life, freedom, and God’s goodness. I believe the world should look forward to it because it will bring joy, healing, and a reason to smile even in tough times.
Where do you want to see your music in the coming years?
I want my music to travel beyond borders and become a sound that uplifts nations. In the coming years, I envision my songs on global stages, collaborations with other gospel voices around the world, and most importantly, I see lives being transformed. My goal is not just recognition but legacy; to create songs that people will still be singing decades from now.
