I’m yet to meet anyone who doesn’t desire to live life to fullest. But how can you enjoy living life to fullest if you are overwhelmed with unending distractions here and there? Human beings are constantly surrounded with distractions in different forms. Some of these distractions come as disguises while some are so obvious that you cannot but notice them for what they represent.
However, the fact remains that distractions in whatever form they turn out come to steal your time, your opportunities, your capabilities, your resources, your peace and your joy. Fortunately, there are numerous steps you can take ahead of time to curb potential distracters and avoid regrets. Here are some things you should do to get rid of distractions.
The starting point to getting rid of distractions, whether they appear as endless chit-chat, extreme spending, too much sleep, loss of job, financial constraints, business or academic failure, is to identify the culprit. Being able to discern an individual or a group, an event or a circumstance as the point of distraction is definitely the right step in the right direction. So put on your discerning cap and smell distracters even from a distance. You cannot conquer what you’re ignorant about.
Learning to prioritize your tasks is important to getting rid of distractions in your life. This comes with accepting the fact you cannot do everything that is hurled your way neither can you please everyone that crosses your path. The truth is that some of the people and activities you give attention to are nothing but mere distracters. Always know the value people and activities add to your daily routine and to your life and learn to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Looking at the big picture and deciding what’s important to you and not what others think you should be doing will help to rid your life of distractions. You should always have a clear head as much as possible concerning your purpose in life. Ask yourself: what comes first? Without adequate knowledge of who you and where you are headed to, you become a dump site for all manner of demands. Hence, you must learn to say no to things that are not in agreement with your life goals and reason for existence.
In today’s fast-paced culture, you need all the requisite skills to curb distractions. A major one is the skill of maintaining self discipline. Being disciplined about the things that matter leads to productive experiences; anyone who finds it absolutely difficult to maintain self discipline becomes vulnerable to distractions and will be deprived of time, finances, energy, opportunities and self esteem.
Without getting rid of distractions, you will not be able to accomplish much in life. Your personal/family life, business, career or professional life will hang at the precipice and face the reality of a potential crash if distractions are allowed to fester. The ability to get rid of distractions doesn’t come at the snap of the fingers; you have to learn how to do it. Make today the day you begin to curb distractions towards living meaningful and productive life to fullest. Till I come your way next time, have a distraction-free week!
