Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Olufemi Michael Abikoye has challenged Nigerian and Ghanaian children to aspire to be great because the future belongs to them
Speaking at an event to mark the Children’s Day celebration in Accra, Ghana which attracted Children of Nigerians resident in Ghana and some Ghanaian children, Abikoye enjoined them to focus on their studies and start to learn nation-building in the interest of their future.
In his words: ‘’ The future is yours, but you have to study very hard, always be of good behaviour, do great exploits so that your parents, guardians and communities will be proud of you. As I said earlier, you are the future of your countries. With determination and seriousness, sky is the limit for you”
In her remarks, the spouse of the High Commissioner, Mrs. Margret Kikelomo Abikoye appreciated the support of Nigerian Women in Ghana, Home based officers, Local staff, Nigerian Union of Traders Association, Ghana and the High Commissioner for their continuous support which she noted made the event a success.
She commended the partners and sponsors of the event and all the children who attended the event most especially schools and homes. Mrs. Abikoye later donated some items to the schools and homes
The theme of this year’s celebration was; “End malnutrition; protect the future of the Nigerian child.” The event brought together children and wards of home based officers, local staff as well as children of Nigerians living in Ghana.
The event was put together by Nigerian women resident in Ghana led the spouse of the High Commissioner, Mrs. Margaret Kikelomo Abikoye and the spouses of Home based officers in conjunction with the High Commission
It was attended by students from New Horizon Special School, Dzorwulu Special School, and Noyaa Academy home and other schools. It availed them the opportunity of interacting with other children.
As part of the celebrations, children participated in quiz, fashion parade, chorography, games and dancing competition, all geared towards confidence building and boldness.
