Umunwanwa Umuopara communities in Umuahia South local government area of Abia State are sitting on a time bomb due to the exposure of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation ( NNPC) pipeline that passes through the area, a member of the House of Representatives , Hon. Sam Onuigbo has warned.
Onuigbo sounded the alarm when the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mele Kyari appeared before the joint investigative hearing on illegal crude refining and oil theft in the country.
Green Savannah Diplomatic Cable checks revealed that the affected communities have been battling with Gully Erosion for some years.
Onuigbo who is the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia at the National Assembly is worried about the consequences of the failure of NNPC to take action.
The Lawmaker who is the brain behind Climate Change Act disclosed that in the 8th Assembly, there was a resolution by the House that NNPC should take action, regretting that despite the same resolution at the 9th Assembly, NNPC is yet to take action
He said the lives of his people are in danger and therefore called on NNPC to save his Federal Constituency from an avoidable calamity.
