Excerpts:
You battled dyslexia at a young age. What was the experience like and how were you able to overcome it?
Growing up with dyslexia was challenging, especially in environments where reading and writing were central to learning. However, music became my sanctuary. It helped me express myself in ways words couldn’t. Through determination, support from my family, and focusing on my strengths, I managed to turn it into a unique part of my journey. Dyslexia taught me resilience and creativity, both of which fuel my music today.
Why did you choose music as a career?
Music has always been a part of me—it’s my way of connecting with people and expressing emotions that words often fail to capture. After placing as the fourth runner-up on Nigerian Idol 2014 and later winning the Karaoke World Championship in Nigeria in 2020, it became clear that this is where my passion and purpose align.
How supportive were your parents when you started?
My parents were incredibly supportive. They saw my potential and encouraged me to pursue my dreams despite the challenges. Their faith in me gave me the courage to persevere and succeed in a competitive industry.
From your interactions with your fans, what did they tell you are unique about your videos?
My fans often tell me they love the raw emotion and storytelling in my videos. They appreciate the authenticity I bring, making my music relatable and heartfelt. I try to ensure every visual represents the core message of the song.
What was the inspiration for your new song, Letter from God?
Letter from God was inspired by moments of deep reflection. It’s about finding hope and encouragement in difficult times. The song is a reminder that no matter what life throws at us, there’s always guidance and strength available if we look inward and upward.
“Toxic Places” is also doing well. Would you like to speak about its impacts?
Toxic Places has resonated deeply with many because it addresses themes of growth, leaving harmful environments, and rediscovering oneself. It’s heartening to see how many people relate to its message and have shared their personal journeys with me.
Who are your role models in music?
My role models include legends like Whitney Houston for her powerful vocals, and Tracy Chapman for her profound storytelling. They’ve inspired me to blend emotive performance with meaningful lyrics.
You won the Karaoke World Championship in Nigeria. Would you like to share your experience?
Winning the Karaoke World Championship in 2020 was an incredible milestone in my career. It validated my talent on an international level and connected me with amazing musicians and fans worldwide. I’ve also been fortunate to achieve other milestones, such as placing as the fourth runner-up on Nigerian Idol in 2014 and being recently interviewed on BBC, which was a wonderful platform to share my music and journey.
You seem to be in love with guitar?
Absolutely! The guitar is more than an instrument to me—it’s an extension of my voice. It allows me to express myself in ways that words and singing alone cannot. Playing the guitar also makes my performances feel more intimate.
What should your fans be looking forward to in 2025?
2025 is going to be an exciting year. I have plans for new music, live performances, and collaborations with other artists. I’m also exploring more visual storytelling, so fans can expect videos that bring my songs to life in unique ways.
