Presenting the books to the school, the founder of HEY SISSY, Taiye Adesewa Oyinloye, said one of the core values of the organisation is education stressing that HEY SISSY is committed to giving lifeline to indigent students who are struggling with their studies due to lack of financial support.
According to her, it is in the light of that HEY SISSY decided to donate 100 academic textbooks to the school.
In her words “What we have donated are Mathematics textbooks, English Language textbooks and also Literature textbooks. I feel fulfilled doing this because it is not easy. I tried to collaborate but that did not work, so I had to crowdfund to raise money and get this project done.
“Although, I didn’t meet my target for the fundraising but I’m happy we are able to contribute our own quota to the future of these children.”
When asked what her organization has done in recent times, the founder of The Sisi Empowerment Foundation said “In about one and half years, we have impacted over 1,200 females and grew to over 340 community members represented in more than 15 states across Nigeria.
“To the glory of God, we have carried out major community development projects. The first was pad donation outreach where we donated 600 packs of sanitary pads to over 500 girls and women at the Internally Displaced Persons Camp, Durumi, Abuja, and later at Government Day Secondary School, Danialu, Ilorin, Kwara State
“Again, last year we also carried out leadership training on International Day Of The Girl Child at Junior Secondary School, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja and Anglican Girls Grammar School, Surulere, Lagos. About 200 girls benefited from the programs
“In December 2024, HEY SISSY donated Bag of rice, diapers, packs of noodles, clothes, toiletries, biscuits to Children with special needs at To Omo Re Center for Special Empowerment in Kwara State. We did this to spread Christmas joy and put smile on their faces. We spent some time with them too.
“We shall continue to impact positively on the lives of our girls and young ladies and others, particularly the indigents”
In her remarks, the principal, JSS Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, Dr Eke Iheukwumere Clarice, promised that the school would make good and maximum use of the books through the teachers to the students while adding that it will also promote reading culture among the students.
“I want to thank the NGO for the books donated to the school. It will be helpful to us at least for the ones that did not have the textbooks. They will definitely utilise it. We are grateful. We wish them success in their endeavours. We pray that the good Lord will continue to guide them
“We’ll ensure that the students make good use of the books. Since the books are with us and the teachers are there, we’ll be giving it to them to teach and also to make sure that the students make good use of it and see the books as theirs.
“The economic situation has affected reading culture and it is part of the problem. Many of them cannot afford the books because they are expensive. And that is why we are grateful to the NGO that donated the books. The teachers must surely make use of them by making sure that teaching and learning take place in the class.” She said .
A JSS 2 student, Praise John, commended HEY SISSY for extending its hands of fellowship to the school adding that the books will help her and other students in their academic pursuits.
